My name is Sarah Bourke from Canberra and I am a descendant of the Djaru, Ongkomi and Gamilaroi people.
I have a BA(Hons)/BSc(Psy) from ANU and have recently completed an MPhil in Medical Anthropology from the University of Oxford. Throughout my university study I have been the recipient of scholarships, including the IYLP Tertiary Scholarship with MADALAH, which have enabled me to acquire the tools needed to reach my full potential.
These scholarships have opened up many opportunities for me, the most significant of which to date was the chance to complete a graduate degree at Oxford in the UK. I am now enrolled to complete a Doctorate degree in Anthropology at Oxford, and am in Canberra for the next 12 months to undertake my fieldwork. Mentoring and leadership training have played a significant role in my success, and I would not be where I am without the support of many individuals and organisations.
These activities have given me the knowledge and confidence to be ambitious in my career goals, and the ability to pass on advice and skills to others. I hope to become a leader in my field in the future and to create opportunities for other Indigenous youth to achieve in their lives.See more success stories
