Matthew Compton
I was born in Sydney but brought up for most of my early life in a small town in Northern NSW called Woodenbong. Coming from a country town made it difficult to gain access to the same opportunities so many other Aussie kids take for granted and the financial burden of lifting yourself up out of that cycle can take more than just getting assistance from Centrelink. When I found out I was to a MADALAH recipient, I was over the moon.
Over the past 4 years I’ve been supported by them in so many ways, financially, leadership training and development, and most importantly I’ve been given so many opportunities to connect with other mobs around the country that started off just like I did and are working hard to make something of themselves.
I’m so blessed to say I’m finishing off my Business Management Degree at one of Australia’s top universities and also working part time in Sydney in the music industry as a digital marketing and brand management consultant. I’m proud to say I’m in the process of registering my business now and when I graduate I can expect to (fingers crossed) be a self employed Indigenous Australian.
I would not be in this place today if it wasn’t for MADALAH.
